Florian van Bael

   As you may already tell, this guy is pretty gorgeous.

   I'd definitely say he's my favorite model as of right now (maybe tied up with Miles McMillan [that might be a weird sex joke, haha]). I know that he has a girlfriend which is kind of a bummer, but let's see what else there is to know about him.

• From Brussels, Belgium and is a full-blooded Belgian
• Enjoys music on a deeper level (than most people)
• Watches soap operas
• Has wanted to be a magician since he was a kid
• When asked about where he would like to visit he responded, "America, just because they really have got EVERYTHING there at a cheap price and everything also always has to be 10 times bigger than in any other countries."

   That one was my favorite.

Center Cultural Chicago

   East-coast; West-coast; Lake-coast. Considering the central location in America, Chicago is a mecca for business, but it's (in my opinion) a promised-land for artists of all kinds.






   The sculpture shown above, to the bottom right and the mural are made from a wire of very large gauge and wrapped in a double (and in some instances triple) knitting/crocheting. The exhibition is Not Your Grandma's Future Juice Bar by Mike Andrews. 

"Fueled by dynamic relationships between bright and dull colors, hard and soft materials, and range of scale, this series of sculptures and tapestries pointedly occupies the gallery space demanding the viewer’s attention. Andrews uses the format of the tapestry because he feels it is an ideal information delivery system that simultaneously functions as object and image. This exhibition is informed by the grandeur of historical tapestries, non-representational abstract painting, and the delirium of the home crafter." This last work (seen below) uses a technique that is similar to water-color. However, the surface painted on is cotton. So, the soaking/bleeding rate is very high and therefore doesn't allow much control. 

The end product is incredibly beautiful. The figures in the pictures are outlined by embroidered lines. They probably served as a good starting point for the painting.

Carpet-Baggers

To whom it may concern (and Carpet-Baggers),

     2012 was a year of economic recession in America; countless people lost their jobs and homes. It seemed that many citizens had lost sight of their dreams and given up on pursuing happiness. 

     Meanwhile, the fashion industry was named one of the few surviving businesses from the market crash. For the luxury business, it became hard to cater to spendy spenders that had become conservative with their money. 

     But leave it up to Marc Jacobs to make a line that came from a dream-induced-state and was much about being fun! Marc Jacobs' Fall 2012 collection has been considered to be the child of: Mary Poppins-Dr.Seuss-Pilgrim-Jewish Fashion and of course, Carpet Bagger Chic.

     I don't know exactly how that baby was birthed...but nonetheless! This is a prime example of how fashion can spread smiles when things seem a bit darker. 

     

I must admit, this collection has almost been an obsession lately! To experience the fun and  let-loose side of fashion is rather new to me (as I am used to designers such as Rick Owens, Thierry Mugler and Alexndre Plokhov).

But I have heard that it is always nice to try on a new hat every once in a while...so -->

I took a trip to the fabric store a couple blocks down. Although I had trouble finding the 'perfect' fabric, I worked with what I found. When I got back to my apartment, I had an evil grin on my face before I got to work. Overall, it took me about two hours to make the hat, and that's about the same amount of time individuals on the street have spent looking at it.

Though it is a rather hard piece to pull off, it's brought some smiles to people in the city. And as far as I can tell, I look about as happy as a Carpet-Bagger in the recession! :D   The hats from the runway cost thousands of dollars and seem to have the availability of Alexander McQueen's Armadillo Heels. However, making them from scratch is inexpensive and is readily available!
